MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!! If you have not seen Season 2 episode 3: "The Reichenbach Fall", DO NOT read this post!!!
As you know, in the last episode (The Reichenbach Fall) Sherlock is believed to have committed suicide but is' later seen watching John mourning over Sherlock's grave. How did Sherlock fake his own death? There are many theories, and I believe that I may have come up with another (If this theory has already been proposed, sorry).
Before Sherlock jumps, Moriarty shoots himself. This doesn't seem to have any significance to Sherlock's assumed suicide. However, Steven Moffat (the writer of the show) makes a point of showing that Moriarty is bleeding through the back of his head (http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/01/17/article-2087814-0F802B3300000578-17_634x362.jpg), which he also does when showing the audience "Sherlock's" dead body (http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/28300000/Sherlock-S02E03-The-Reichenbach-Fall-sherlock-on-bbc-one-28354937-624-352.jpg [it's a tad gruesome]). So, maybe dead Sherlock is actually dead Moriarty. However, Sherlock and Moriarty look nothing alike. Earlier in the episode, a little girl whom Sherlock has never seen screams upon sight of him. Someone must have given himself Sherlock's appearance to do this to her. In order to accomplish this, they would have to have a wig (because of Sherlock's easily distinguishable hair) and possibly a mask that makes them look like Sherlock. Put this on Moriarty, and PRESTO! Instant dead Sherlock!
Now, how did Moriarty's body make it to the ground? Why, Sherlock's homeless network, of course! Before Moriarty's suicide, Sherlock asks for a moment of privacy during which he studies the scene on the street beneath him. I believe that he is taking this moment to make sure his network is in position. Therefore, when Moriarty shoots himself, up comes the homeless network to take the body downstairs for prepping.
Most of the rest of the episode is seen from John's point of view. When he gets a call from Sherlock, he is adamant that John stays in an exact position that leaves a one-story building between the ground where Sherlock will land when he jumps and himself.
When Sherlock jumps (because it is has to be him), I think he actually landed in a truck filled with garbage bags that is parked between the one-story building and Sherlock (http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m193vxMu2K1qawsuy.png).(Although Steven Moffat has said that this truck has nothing to do with Sherlock's survival, it is very likely that he is lying). John can't see said truck. When he lands in the truck, Moriarty-Sherlock is pushed onto the sidewalk where Sherlock could have landed. When Sherlock jumped, he jumped perpendicular to St Bart's (the building he jumped off of). The body on the ground lands parallel to St. Bart's.
Just as a side note, the episode is titled "The Reichenbach Fall". Previously in the episode, Moriarty adopts the false identity of Richard Brook. When "Richard Brook" is translated into German, it becomes "Reichenbach". So if the body on the ground is Moriarty, Reichenbach truly did fall.
So there you have it! That is how I personally believe Sherlock faked his own death.
Thank you and happy Internetting!
